The Minister of Education and sports and the first lady of the Republic of Uganda has tasked the people of Karamoja sub-region to utilize the peace that the National Resistance Movement-NRM government through the leadership of President Museveni has brought to the region.
Speaking in a campaign rally at Lolachat Primary School Grounds in Nabilatuk district, the first lady said that for long Karamoja has spent all the time fighting amongst themselves and the neighbouring districts, something she says left the region underdeveloped.
According to the first lady, it’s a high time the people of Karamoja engaged themselves in agriculture to produce food for home use and sale. She added that hunger remain a major challenge to the people of Karamoja which she believes involvement in agriculture will solve it. She also asked the people of Karamoja to take advantage of the prevailing peace to educate their children to help in the fight against illiteracy, which is still high in the region. Furthermore, she confirmed that though education, Karamoja will be able to produce able future leaders.

She then called upon the people of Karamoja to give full support to the NRM government in the upcoming general Elections by voting for president Museveni and the NRM flag bearers to keep the existing peace land development.
However, president Museveni while addressing the votes gathered at Lolochat sub county said retaining NRM in power will help in protecting the gains they have worked for in the past 40 years. According to the president, some of the gains he wants to protect in Karamoja are the peace and stability, hospitals, schools and infrastructure amongst others.
Meseveni promised to tarmac the road going to Nabilatuk, build for schools to promote education and building and upgrading health centres to improve service delivery on the health sector.
