The National Resistance Movement party Presidential candidate General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has advised the people of Amudati district in Karamoja sub-region to dismiss claims of arid and infertile land in their area and engage in Agriculture for wealth creation.
As he explains during his presidential campaign rally at Kalas Girls Primary School playgrounds in Amudat district, Museveni notes that Amudat district and the greater Karamoja sub-region has fertile land with potential in vast agricultural activities citing several successful farmers’ stories in that area.
He has proposed to initiate a joint support fund for famers in their respective cooperatives and associations in way of transportation of their produce and livestock to better markets as a remedy to exploitation by middle men
Meanwhile, the Amudat District NRM Chairperson John Baptist Sichot requested the president to support farmers with tractors to boost farming.
He presented the district’s status report pointing at the impact of the 44 billion shillings Parish Development Model-PDM funds disbursed to 12,118 households and the 820 million shillings disbursed to 18 saccos on top of the Youth Livelihood program, Women Empowerment Funds and other socioeconomic empowerment schemes initiated by the NRM government to financially empower the people out of poverty.
Currently, Amudat is the biggest producer of maize in Karamoja and any efforts to support the farmers with modern farming equipment, water for production and financial boost will expand this production even more.
