Day one for Nominations in Moroto ends with success

As the country gears up for the 2026 general elections, preparations are underway to ensure a smooth exercise, beginning with nominations of different candidates at all levels. While the presidential candidates are done with theirs and are now campaigning, Members of Parliament have also started and in Moroto today, the exercise saw a smooth start.

According to the Electoral Commission returning officer for Moroto district Mrs. Esther Immaculate Ajwang, the exercise went on well with all the candidates honouring their schedule as booked. She said all candidates kept time and had organized their documents, something that allowed them to handle all the ten booked slots within schedule.

Hon. Stella Atyang, the Moroto district Woman Member of Parliament, praised the EC Moroto team for a wonderful reception and being much organized. Hon. Atyang stated that she is contesting to serve as a people centred leader, who will always prioritize the community demands.

Hon. Fred Angella, the former Member of Parliament for Moroto Municipality, also contesting as an independent candidate for the same position said after his nomination that if elected back, he will prioritize health, education and social-economic transformation of the people of Moroto Municipality. He called for unity during this period of electioneering.

Hon. Hellen Kiyai, the Forum for Democratic Change candidate for the Moroto district Woman MP seat, said the process was very smooth but called for a levelled ground during campaigns to ensure security and harmony within the communities. She also appreciated the National Resistance Movement for its achievements in the region but, insisted there is a need for change so that other people bring in new ideas to steer up development.

Hon. Francis Lorika Adome also appreciated the EC for organizing a peaceful process and thanked the people of Moroto Municipality for trusting in him. He said many projects have been launched such as education fund, support to small scale businesses, training and equipping of youth with startup capital which he believes can improve the livelihoods in the Municipality.

According to John Baptist Lokii, the Matheniko Member of Parliament and Karamoja NRM Vice Chairperson, this nomination is testament to the gains they have to protect. He said as leaders, they must stay united, campaign peacefully as they preach the various achievements of this government.  

Day one saw ten candidates nominated successfully, with most of them complying with the Electoral Commission set guidelines.
