Four nominated for the position of LC5 chairperson Moroto District .

The Electoral Commission-EC in Moroto District has nominated Four aspiring candidates For the position of LC5 chairperson. The Four nominated candidates include three who are standing under independent-National Resistance Movement-NRM leaning and one who is flag bearer.

The nominated candidates include: Pulkol Anjello NRM flag bearer, Koryang David the incumbent Moroto district chairperson, Lokwang John commonly known as Tunta, and Oloo Paul Balabalamoi all under Independent tickets but NRM leaning.

Esther Immaculate Ajwang, the returning Officer For Moroto district, said after going through the verification where 362 voters who were all supporting their different candidate’s nomination, her office duly nominated the four to run in the forth coming elections to represent the people of Moroto district.

Pulkol Anjello, the NRM flag bearer for Moroto District for position of LC5 chairperson, expressed his gratitude to the people of Moroto for standing with him. Angello implored the community of Moroto district not discriminate against a certain ethnic cluster, noting that Moroto harbours all Ugandans regardless of their race and colour.

He warned the electorates to stay away from taking sides. Pulkol urged that it’s a high time to come together and work as a unit, noting that there is a need to embrace all government programs. However, John Lokwang Tunta said his coming to be nominated as aspirant for the position of LC5 chairperson under independent ticket is to improve the socio-economic life of the people of Moroto District.

Lokwang noted that the livelihood of the people of Moroto revolve around the cattle keeping, but also emphasized the need to improve maternal health so that people, especially women who do more production related labour, continue to live a healthy life. He noted his aim to come to office is to protect the gains which were realized in the past decades.
 
David Koryang who is also the incumbent for the position of LC5 chairperson Moroto District said that it’s the electorates pushing him to come back to contest in the general elections. Koryang noted that his aim is to consolidate peace in the region and has encouraged the voters to rally behind him come time For election. Koryang implored the voters that ready to work with them this time round and urged his opponents to play mature politics.
 
According to Paul Oloo aspirant for Moroto District LC5 chairperson under independent ticket, the voters demanded him to come and contest as LC5 chairperson, noting that his aim to contest is consolidate development, creating job opportunities, improving education services among others, since the position directly takes charge of such at its central position. Oloo warned the people of karamoja to shun away from tribalism, noting that the district needs everyone in order to develop into a city status.

According to the EC revised roadmap for the 2025/2026 General Elections, Polling Period for Presidential, Parliamentary, and Local Government Councils (City/District; Municipality/City Division; and Sub County, Town, Municipal Division), including SIGs Representatives, in line with Article 61(2) of the Constitution shall be conducted between 12th January 2026 to 9th February 2026.
