The Moroto district local council 5 elect has called for unity among rival factions in the concluded elections citing that for the district to develop, they need each other regardless of the elections outcome. Anjello Pulkol made the remarks after being declared winner of the district top job on Thursday evening at the Moroto tally center.
Residents, especially the youth who seemed to have predicted the win last night jumped to the streets, celebrating the Victory immediately after an official announcement by District Returning Officer Ajwang Esther. Pulkol was declared the winner for the Moroto District Chairperson seat, beating the incumbent David Koryang in a highly competitive race.
Pulkol, who is still serving as the Loputuk Sub County Councilor, has fulfilled the will of his voters in a tremendous victory, in which he polled 11085 votes, beating John Lokwang, who polled 4,950 votes not sparing the incumbent, Koryang, who came third with 3,755 votes and Oloo Paul who got 1625.
Earlier, Anjello cited low voter turnout and lack of civic education in the community as the major setback in the lower government elections that has repeatedly occurred with little or no action by the electoral commission. He said with the victory, he will emphasize on consultation, unity, inclusivity and solidarity as some of the areas to work on, as well as seeking for guidance from my opponents.
He thanked the Moroto electorates for voting him massively, expressing commitment to working together with different stakeholders for the better of the district and Karamoja at large. On Thursday, Ugandans went to the polls to elect, Lord/City Mayors, District chairpersons and councilors across the Country.
