Over 700 student Patriots passed out in Moroto

As schools all over the country plan to close for holidays this week, Moroto prepared its students to integrate back into the community as patriots who will be change makers. In an event that was held at the Moroto Boma grounds and presided over by Commissioner of the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC), the patriots matched under the early morning drizzle around town to display skills and readiness.

The pass out involved 737 students from five schools in Moroto District; Moroto High school, Child Jesus Comprehensive, Moroto Parents School, Nadunget secondary school and Rupa Seed school who completed a one week patriotism training. Five more schools: Nakiloro seed school, Apostles of Jesus, St. Mary’s Nadiket, Katikekile and St. Daniel Comboni could not send their students for the training.

Speaking at the pass out ceremony attended by UPDF officers from 3Infantry Division, Police, officials from Moroto District, and Teachers, Ms. Hellen Seku, Commissioner of the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps explained that the core values of patriotism training is to shape citizens, urging the young patriots to be responsible, promote peace, love, unity and embrace hard work to eradicate poverty at homes.

She said Karamoja Sub-Region has drastically transformed urging the young people to protect the environment and promote tree planting as she warned against deforestation which may lead to poverty. Seku encouraged the girl child to have positive mindset towards education and avoid early marriages and other bad behaviors, saying such practices expose them to dangers that can ruin their future.

Bob Abukuku Lokwang, representative of the student Patriots commended the National Secretariat for Patriotic Corps (NSPC) commissioner Seku Hellen and the lead patriot, the President of Uganda H.E Yoweri Museveni for the program saying it has nurtured them into people of integrity and responsible citizens.

Meanwhile, the Moroto Assistant Resident District commissioner, Mark Musoka Aol pledged commitment to orienting all young people into responsible citizens emphasizing the need to train all schools that missed out. He said those schools will have to do the training during the first week of school opening.

The National Secretariat for Patriotic-NSPC was established in 2009 by H.E the President of Uganda with the mandate to develop and coordinate Patriotism clubs in all post primary schools and institutions country-wide. It is a department under the Office of the president responsible for Promotion of Patriotism ideology in schools.
